Summer camps are great way to keep your child busy and productive. Choosing an appropriate summer program for kids is very necessary, but most parents fail to understand what exactly that program should have. To avoid making any such mistakes, here are some of the most common mistakes that parents make when choosing their child's summer day camp.

Giving preference to child’s comfort zone

It is very important that you push your child out of his shell. Choosing a summer program for kidsthat does not allow child to explore new things and opportunity is a waste of time. Choosing safety is different and choosing comfort is different. Parents often fail to distinguish both. Its like passing on your fears and inhibitions to your child. Choose a program that develops your child better and gives an opportunity to try something unusual.

Not keeping their child’s interests in mind

Engagement is key to learning and that what a child enjoys. To strike a good balance between a summer camp and learning, make sure you talk to your child about their interests and bents. Ask them how they want to spend their summer vacation. If he/she is interested in sports then go for a sports oriented camp, if he/she loves to dance or sing choose a camp accordingly.

Picking a summer camp based that his/her bestie wants

Companionship is good but that should not influence your likes and dislikes. For a parents their child’s interest is of utmost importance but parents should also consider how beneficial that interest is. If the child insists on joining the camp which his/her bestie wants, then try to convince to choose one which is in their interest. Kids do not have the same capability of judging right and wrong like adults do. Also, choosing a different camp gives an opportunity to widen your child’s social network and interaction

Ignoring the importance of STEAM

Many summer camps focus on activities such as swimming, hiking, and water sports where kids spend time outdoors, learn an appreciation for the natural world and may even pick up some survival skills. Parents should also consider skills that encourage engagement in science, technology, engineering, art, and math to succeed in life. Consider looking for summer day camps that give kids the chance to gain hands-on learning experiences in STEAM subjects such as computer programming, filmmaking, digital media and robotics. Its better to start early always.
