Dhoka: A Unique and Refreshing Tobacco of UAE

Dokha a traditional Middle Eastern tobacco is quite popular in many countries due to its flavor which is typically mixed with flowers, herbs, spices and fruits. It is just more than tobacco, smoked through a wooden pipe. It has made its way in many countries and even students are enjoying the different flavors. So on a daily basis, the farmers involve themselves in a variety of tasks like removing weeds and pests that appear and keep the plants in the best condition with minimal use of pesticides and herbicides.

Up to 3 feet long a dhokha plant can grow in the first six months of the year when the weather conditions are just perfect for its survival and growth. In addition to this, they can grow upto6 feet in the final two months of its life, aided by the warmer milder nights. It is harvested in June when the plants are hung outside to dry in the desert. It is usually finely ground to preserve the delicate flavors of the tobacco leaves to maintain the strength, freshness and green coloration of the plant.

It is often enjoyed by many people with the help of a special smoking pipe called Medwakh.
