Conditions for LVAD

A left ventricular assist device (LVAD) which is also known as a mechanical circulatory support device that is an implantable mechanical pump that helps the pump blood from the lower chambers of the person’s heart (the ventricles) to the rest of their body. A LVAD is used in people whose hearts are weakened or their heart has failed working. Although a VAD can be placed in the both ventricles of heart either left, right or, it is one of the most frequently used in the left ventricle. When it is placed in the left ventricle of the heart it is known as a left ventricular assist device (LVAD).

A person may have a LVAD implanted by the LVAD Expert in India while the person waits for a heart transplant or for their heart to become strong enough to effectively pump blood on its own. The person’s personal doctor may also recommend having a LVAD implanted by LVAD surgeon in India as a long-term treatment if they have heart failure and they are not a good candidate for a heart transplant. The procedure to implant a LVAD often requires an open-heart surgery and also has some serious risks. However, a LVAD can be lifesaving if they have severe heart failure. A ventricular assist device (VAD) is a type of mechanical device that supports the lower left heart chamber of the body(left ventricular assist device, or LVAD), the lower right heart chamber of the person’s body (right ventricular assist device, or RVAD) or it can be both lower heart chambers (biventricular assist device, or BIVAD). The person’s doctor may recommend that they have a LVAD implanted if they are waiting for a heart transplant. They may have a LVAD implanted temporarily while the wait for a donor heart to become available. A LVAD can keep the blood pumping through the heart despite of a diseased heart and will be removed when their new heart is implanted. It may also help improve some of the function of other organs in the person’s body that may not be working properly and also may improve the other medical conditions of a person. When a LVAD is implanted while they are waiting for a heart transplant, it is referred to as a "bridge to the transplant." If a person is not currently eligible for a heart transplant because of their age or any other conditions. A LVAD may sometimes can be implanted if they have heart failure, but they are not eligible for a heart transplant due to the age or any other medical complications. This is also called as "destination therapy."

In most of the cases, the LVAD may help to improve the function of other organs that aren't working properly or to improve any other medical conditions that may be keeping the person away from being a candidate for a heart transplant. In some of the cases, the LVAD may improve some of these conditions so that they can become a heart transplant candidate, or they may keep the LVAD as a permanent treatment for it. LVADs are increasingly being used as a long-term treatment for those people who have the heart failure but aren't good candidates for the transplant of heart. Generally, if the person is older than age 65, they may not be eligible for the heart transplantation. In that situation the LVAD would be implanted by the surgeon as therapy for the heart failure. A LVAD can enhance the person’s quality of life. The person’s heart's function can become normal again. If the person’s heart failure is temporary, their doctor may recommend implanting a LVAD until their heart is healthy enough to pump the blood on its own again.
