What to expect in cosmetic trends for 2020

Posted by Jamie Costello on December 12th, 2019

Whilst the decade appears to be coming to an end, the growth of plastic surgery continues to be popular for much of the population. Data recorded by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) stated that the number of cosmetic procedures grew by over a quarter million more in 2018 than that of the previous year in 2017.

In a selfie-obsessed culture that seems to have developed in recent years, it’s unlikely that the craze is to go away. There continues to be research and technology used in the sector as surgery becomes more readily available for patients, which means 2020 could be another groundbreaking year for the sector.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at what could be expected in the new year of 2020.

Subtle procedures are likely to be more popular

The general personification of plastic surgery is it's a process of completely changing the appearance of an individual to enhance their appearance. However, this is slowly becoming a myth that’s understood by the public. Now, it seems that many members of the public are becoming more comfortable with their appearance. Non-invasive treatments mean subtle treatments and enhancements are becoming popular procedures.

Previously, patients would feel that major amendments would be required to make them feel and look better. But they’re now understanding that little is more for their plastic surgery procedures. Filters through social media platforms appear to have encouraged this persona for patients as they appear to highlight the main qualities of one’s appearance, with just slight changes made to how they look.

In 2020, expect non-invasive procedures such as lip fillers and botox to be the key drivers for patients as they look to make subtle changes to their appearance for the new year.

Are radiofrequency and ultrasound procedures set to breakthrough for 2020?

The obsession to look younger is clear as patients become conscious about sagging skin and weight loss changes that are impacting the appearance of their ageing skin. Whether it’s through pregnancy, dramatic weight loss, or general ageing, excessive skin is common for most patients.

Previously, traditional methods to deal with excessive skin through cosmetic surgery involved large procedures such as liposuction, body lifts or facelifts. However, through advancement in technology, new soundwave devices can be used by plastic surgeons to shrink skin. There are many fears for patients when going through such excess skin removal procedures which means they tend to seek alternatives. In the last year or so, there have been popular rejuvenation techniques that have come to light.

Facial fillers are here to stay

For many years, improvements made to the face via facial fillers have been extremely popular and this is still to continue as we head into the new decade. They’re used to plump an area of the face that may appear sunken in appearance to provide a more youthful look. Another appealing factor as to why it’s likely to remain popular in 2020 is due to their last results, which tend to stay between 6 months and a year.

Cosmetic surgery for 2020

As we head into the new year many people will be looking back at what was, but also look forward to what could be. The procedures identified above are predictions based off previous data which we’re like to see in the new year for cosmetic surgery. Whether they last in the new year is still to be decided as the sector continues to grow and develop.
