The San Francisco Conservatory of Music is a small conservatory located in the city's Civic Center, a short walk from the San Francisco Symphony and Opera House.

Although the city of San Francisco remains a major attraction for prospective music students, the Conservatory remains one of the least competitive on this list. About 40 percent of applicants are invited to join 450 students at the school each year. 

A whopping 95 students receive a scholarship of some kind, and student housing is found in all desirable neighborhoods of San Francisco. Music production in USAThe Conservatory's programs are widely respected at all levels, through its graduate chamber music program it stands out as one of the best programs in the country.

Students of all levels are given a range of entertainment opportunities in and around the Bay Area, and an impressive third of the conservatory's faculty comes from the famous San Francisco Symphony.

Peabody Conservatory is a division of the Peabody Institute, which is, in turn, a division of Johns Hopkins University.

It is therefore not surprising that Peabody's stature is commensurate with the university's stellar international reputation.

Located in Baltimore, Peabody has taught students professional careers in music for over 150 years. The Conservatory has produced many respectable artists.

Although music is obviously the main focus of the curriculum, Peabody's programs also emphasize civic responsibility. Students are expected to learn to be leaders in both society and their careers.

Unlike many other top conservatories in the area, Peabody encourages student collaboration, as opposed to constant competition.
