Where is it located?

Cotopaxi is located inside the Cotopaxi national park approximately at about 50 km away from Quito, in the state of the same name. The distance is a two-hour drive that takes you along the capital city out into the suburbs.

You will notice beautiful rocky mountains, old haciendas, colorful towns, and crops over the highway making it an amazing Andean view while on your way to the magnificent volcano.

How to avoid altitude sickness during the Cotopaxi Summit?

When it comes to altitude sickness, everyone’s reactions vary. Some feel it, while others don’t feel it at all. Shortness in breathing is one of the common symptoms while summiting any mountain.

Even if you are the fittest person, if you fail to acclimatize properly you will feel the lack of oxygen. To avoid such an experience, we recommend to Cotopaxi Summit after a couple of days being up in the highlands.

Doing this will allow your body to get used to consuming less oxygen and you won’t feel uneasiness.

Moreover, keep in mind that exposing yourself to higher altitudes is hydration and make sure to drink a lot of water or you will be affected by the higher altitude.

Though, climbers don’t consider it that difficult as that of the Everest; you must not take it lightly. After all, it’s a mountain and it is full of challenges.
