Hornets are a type of wasp that makes use of their sting for self-defence. The moment you have had the hornet sting, you are going to feel the sheer pain and uncomfortable factor in that affected area. Sooner, you will be able to face the pain, swelling and redness that is caused due to the hornet sting on the human body.

The sting of the hornet is quite venomous. The poisonous substance is further transmitted to humans during the sting. The pain needs to be subsided. And many could be even allergic to that. It is important that you visit the doctor sooner to seek the right medical attention during that period.

There might be symptoms that you may face once you get stung by a hornet.

So what are the symptoms?

Most of the people without sting allergies will show fewer symptoms during and after the hornet stings. The initial feel could include sheer pain or burn at the sting site. Redness, swelling and itching can occur as well.

Normal local reactions

You will have the feeling of the raised welt around the sting area. There will be a tiny mark that will be visible in the middle of the welt. It is the area where the stinger punctured your skin. Mainly the pain and swelling recede within long hours of being stung.

Large local reactions

“Large local reactions” is the term used with a wasp or bee sting mainly. People who tend to have this kind of reaction could be allergic to such stings. They will not be able to experience any threat to their life just like anaphylactic shock.

These reactions include extreme redness and swelling that increases for 2 or 3 days after the sting. Nausea and vomiting may also happen.

Most of the time, large local reactions subside on their own over the week or even more. It is better to visit the doctor soon to know about the large local reaction after the hornet sting. The doctor might prescribe your medications and medicines for reducing the swelling and discomfort.

Having a large local reaction after a wasp sting one time does not mainly mean that you will react to future sting in the same way. You can even have one strong reaction and never show the same reaction ever again. This form of reaction could be the way the body responds to such stings.

It is better to avoid the feeling of being stung for preventing these uncomfortable symptoms.

Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction to such stings include:

severe swelling of the face, lips, or throat

hives or itching in areas of the body not affected by the sting

breathing difficulties, such as wheezing or gasping

dizziness

the sudden drop in blood pressure

lightheadedness

loss of consciousness

nausea or vomiting

diarrhoea

stomach cramps

a weak or racing pulse

You might be experiencing all of these symptoms after the hornet sting. But you will be able to experience some of it after a small-time or a subsequent sting. If you have a history of anaphylaxis, you should carry a kit in the event of a wasp sting.

There are bee sting kits have epinephrine injections also known an EpiPen. You can give that to yourself after you have been stunned. EpiPen has got Epinephrine that has several positive effects. It helps in stabilizing blood pressure, increasing the heart rate and strength and help respiration coming back to normalcy.

Anaphylactic shock is a medical emergency that requires immediate treatment. The best thing is to visit your doctor to seek apt medical attention.
