Guide To Take Care of Fresh Cut Lilies And HydrangeasPosted by Betty Miller on February 12th, 2020 Rehydrate the flowers Both these stunning flowers need a lot of water. Unlike roses and carnations, it may not be enough to simply put them in a vase with a cup of water. When you receive a bouquet of these flowers, you need to first rehydrate them. For this, fill a bucket with cool water and submerge the bouquet in it. Leave aside for 3-4 hours so that the stems can soak up water and the blooms can be hydrated property.
Even after you’ve transferred the flowers to a vase, you can repeat this step every 2-3 days. With this process, the flowers may live for up to 2 weeks! Trim the stems When leaves are underwater, they start to rot. This will not only make the water cloudy, it will also breed bacteria that can harm your flowers. Hence, before you place your flowers in a vase, you will need to trim the stems. Remove any foliage that you feel will be submerged in your vase. Avoid pulling the leaves off and cut them with a sharp knife instead. When it comes to lilies, leave at least 4 sets of leaves above the water level to nourish buds that are yet to open.
Next, cut 1-2 inches off the bottom of the stems by cutting them at an angle of 45-degrees. This will increase the surface area of the stem from where the flowers can absorb water. If possible, do this trimming while the stalk is under water. This keeps air bubbles from entering the stem and blocking the flower’s water supply. Hydrangea stems have a tendency to produce sap that blocks their pores. To protect the flowers from this, you could poke small holes in the stem.Read more...https://www.pickupflowers.com/flower-guide/care-guide-fresh-cut-lilies-hydrangeas
