Do Hair Implants Work For Baldness?

There are a large number of remedies being spouted as cures for male pattern baldness. Most of them don't work. Hair is very important to a person both for positional power and desirability. The hair restoration sector has recently exploded as more and more people choose to fight off their baldness. This has put many products on the market but few are worth trying.

The FDA has only accepted two medications as treatments for baldness. The first, Minoxidil, is a topical solution you rub on the scalp a day. In clinical studies, it's been shown to be effective for a few hair re-growths about 50% of the time. The other FDA approved treatment is Finasteride. This drug is taken during a tablet form daily. Studies show some hair regrowth in about 70% of men but this has not been accepted for female hair loss because it's going to cause birth defects.

Neither of those treatments offers rates of hair re-growth even close to 100% of the time. There’s though a procedure that does have an almost 100% success rate. This method has been around for over 30 years but it's only recently that the procedure has been ready to give realistic-looking results. This method is hair implants or hair implantation.

Most surgeons taking this procedure use micrographs of follicular units. This is often in contrast to the old method of hair plugs where an outsized portion of the hair-covered scalp was cut out and transplanted to a bald patch. The hair plugs ended up making the scalp appear as if a cheap doll's head with some groupings of hair.

With follicular unit micrographs, the surgeon removes a little strip of scalp from the back of the head. This is often the area that's not vulnerable to hair loss. Once the strip is removed the location is stitched close using cosmetic surgery techniques. This leads to only a thin scar line that's easily hidden by the remaining hair.

Next, the strip is cut into tiny groups of two to three hairs called follicular units. Hair naturally grows in these small grouping thus they provide a natural look when inserted into the bald portion of the scalp. a good surgeon will place the units directionally so that they lay in the pattern the first hair shafts laid. This leads to a natural looking head of hair that's almost impossible to detect without very close inspection.

The transplanting is usually performed in two sessions. The first session gives a covering of hair then the second session is used to offer the proper fullness of hair to any areas of the scalp that remain thin. Most of the time the procedure is completed under light sedation and therefore the patient is free to go home a similar day.

The nice thing about hair implants is that the rapid covering of hair that's achieved and unlike hair replacement systems it's your hair that's attached firmly to the scalp. There’s no fear of the hair "moving" or "slipping" at inopportune times like when swimming or during romance.
