Since the late 20th century the Summer Paralympics have been held in the same city that hosts the Olympic Games.The games feature top athletes with a disability.

The Summer Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, are from August 25 to September 6, 2020. The two newest sports to be given Paralympic status are badminton and taekwondo, which will both make their debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

The opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday 25 August in the Tokyo National Stadium and the wheelchair tennis event gets underway on Friday 28 August at the Ariake Tennis Park, lasting for nine days until Saturday 5 September.

PARALYMPIC SPORTS 2020

The Paralympic Games represents an international, multi-sport competition for athletes with an impairment that reflects the highest standards of athletic excellence and diversity.  

The 2020 Summer Paralympics will be the 16th edition of the international multi-sports event, scheduled to be held in Tokyo, Japan, from 25 August to 6 September 2020. Team events of Goalball, Sitting Volleyball, and Wheelchair Basketball will have men’s and women’s events, Wheelchair Rugby will be a mixed event, while the football events are only open to male competitors.
