Winter cleaning tips

It is of great importance to keep your home neat and tidy all year around. However, it can be pretty challenging to keep it clean during the cold months of the year. The reason why we have put a list of winter cleaning tips is because we would like you to enjoy a cosy home this winter. Roll up your sleeves!

     1. First things first … de-clutter

Cleaning a tidy place is easy as one-two-three. But have you ever tried to clean a place which is cluttered? It will probably take you twice as long to clean an area if you have not de-cluttered it in the first place. Whether it is a pile of clothes, socks all around the room or dirty dishes on the side, these undesirable hindrances can make the cleaning a lot harder than it actually is.

A good piece of advice is to take your time to have a quick whip around the house and tidy up before you clean. You will surely feel much better once you have finished the tiding up and it will definitely help you get on top of maintaining it if you fall into the habit of it.

     2. Prepare the entrance for the winter

It is a known fact that shoes are one of the biggest culprits for bringing dirt and dust into our homes. Prepare the entrance with a few items.

 - Door mat (outdoor): When placing a mat outside the door, your guests will give their shoes a brush before entering the house. This can also prevent bigger objects from coming in, such as chunks of mud, leaves or other.

 - Door mat (indoor): Why don’t you put another door mat but inside the door? It will help remove excess dirt. It is of great importance to shake the door mats out every once in a while.

 - Shoe brush (outdoor): Often mud coat the edge of the shoes as well so it is not only the bottom that gets dirty. The shoe brush will help you clean out all those nooks and crannies.

     3. Prepare the fireplace

If there is a fireplace in your home, you will most probably want to use it during the cold months. The greatest disadvantage of having a real fireplace is the ash and grime which comes with each use.

It is not a bad idea to hire a professional chimney sweep to ensure that everything is cleaned and safe before winter comes. Also, think smart and put a dark-coloured rug next to the fireplace.

     4. Look underneath the furniture

It may be easy to vacuum the floors then mop the tiles but every once in a while you should pay attention to all those nooks and crannies which are often missed. Every fortnight, for example, move your furniture and hoover between and behind furniture and appliances. You will see what amount of dust is lying all around. Dust that you are breathing every day.

     5. Refresh the cushions and the couch

A large percentage of our time is spent relaxing on couches or sleeping in our beds. If we clean the sheets regularly, why don’t we clean the couch as well? To keep your relaxing area clean, it is of great importance to refresh the couch and cushion every once in a while. If you are not sure how to proceed, you can always turn to a professional cleaning company to do the job for you.

     6. Clean the windows

While cleaning the inside of the windows is not a hard task, sometimes cleaning the outside is a lot more than just a challenge. For this task you may want to turn to Oscar's Cleaning Chelsea- a professional cleaning company to help you. The truth is that it has to be done nevertheless.

If you are in need of an assisting hand with the winter cleaning tasks, there are many cleaning companies that will meet your needs.
