There are many applications from used shipping containers. In today's global scenario, the economy is rising commodity prices, while mankind is reaping from nature what it sowed. When prices rise and companies start to lay off employees, more people find themselves unemployed and cramped for paying their bills.

Community-based groups use second-hand shipping containers to build houses, condos, studios and other shelter camps. In London, two-and-three-story apartments had already been popular. Many units are offered to eligible homeless tenants, while others are leased out at discounted prices.

In Amsterdam, freight shipping containers are used to construct dormitories for students within campuses. Room accommodation and facilities differ by financial capacity of the student. There are air-conditioned rooms, toilets and bathrooms, and room sizes can be good for 1-6 people. The dormitory has mess halls, entertainment rooms, reception, lounges, etc.

After New Orleans ' Katrina storm, several relief organizations constructed shelter houses and permanent housing with used shipping containers. Such houses ' designs are distinctive and appealing, while basic housing facilities are complete.

Similar event occurred in Haiti when a strong earthquake destroyed it. The organizations coordinate events to collect more funds to finance the plan to build a small community of houses made of steel shipping containers.

Project people are experts in different fields. For example, in building houses, hurricanes' seismic activity and strength are considered to not be easily destroyed when calamities strike again. Each unit has its own garden. The project will house 2 million Haitians.

Resort houses are also established in parts of the islands from used shipping containers. The containers are attached side by side and from top to bottom to create a 2-story resort house with bar, living room, master bedroom, bedroom, kitchen, dining room, balcony on the second floor and toilet and bathroom.
