Both Vapers And Health Professionals Agree – E-Cigarette Use Is Still Healthier

It’s fair to say that 2019 was quite the year for the sustained booming popularity of vaping around the UK and the world, with many positive headlines indicating its worth – not least in helping long-time smokers to quit the habit for good.

However, it’s also true that there were some slightly more alarming developments – namely a spate of illnesses in the US that were initially mistakenly linked to vaping as a whole.

In truth, as explained in a recent insightful Guardian blog post, the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) finally conceded in December that most cases of the injury in question could actually be attributed to a specific additive in certain vaping products, in a part of the world that regulates vaping much less tightly than the UK.

Indeed, the additive in question – vitamin E acetate – isn’t something that British vapers need to concern themselves about, given that vitamin additives in e-liquids are actually illegal on these shores. And sure enough, no similar cases have been identified outside North America.

Why are we telling you this?

The £1 Vape team felt the need to flag up this situation because, frankly, it concerns us just how many misleading or just plain old false stories continue to pop up on the subject of vaping.

Nor has the aforementioned blog post – written by Prof Linda Bauld of the University of Edinburgh and Dr Suzi Gage, a senior lecturer at the University of Liverpool – been the only important corrective to some of the scare stories that still circulate about e-cigarette use.

That’s because findings from a recent survey also showed that ordinary vapers and health professionals agree on vaping being a genuinely healthier alternative to smoking. Almost 2,000 e-cigarette users in the US aged between 18 and 38 were quizzed, with 77% expressing a belief that vaping is healthier than smoking cigarettes.

This tallies well with Public Health England (PHE)’s continued advice that e-cigarettes are at least 95% less harmful than smoking, John Newton having said for the organisation that smoking is responsible for almost 220 deaths in England every day.

So, don’t be afraid to vape to your heart’s content in 2020!
