Tips on Losing Weight

Losing weight is actually pretty simple. You just need to need to make sure you’re in a calorie deficit.
So how do you go about doing that?

Keep a Food Log
Keep a food log for a week or two to find out how many calories you’re currently consuming. There are many phone apps that you can do this on and will keep track of the protein, fat, carbs and calories you’re eating. m I’m often asked by clients how many calories they should be consuming in order to lose weight. Whenever I ask them how many calories, they currently eat a day they can’t tell me as they don’t know. Many people underestimate how much they are eating, often believing they aren’t eating too much when they are.
After logging what you’ve been eating for a week or two and seeing how many calories you're currently eating, I can work out how many calories you should start consuming in order to lose weight. By continuing to log your food and drink intake, you can ensure you don't go over the calories needed to lose weight.

Plan Your Meals and Snacks
Planning is vital to help you succeed. Plan all your meals in advance and write a list before going to shop. This puts you in control of how many calories you consume, helps you make healthier choices, and eliminates eating unplanned meals.
Plan what you’re going to eat everything. This might seem boring, or even a bit over the top, but you’re much more likely to succeed if you do this as it’s hard to make good food choices if you haven’t got something ready when you’re tired, in a rush, or have gone a long time without food.
Prepare your meals in advance. Preparing your lunch for while you’re at work could save you grabbing whatever is available from the staff canteen, or local shops. Make a large batch of something you’ve cooked and frozen the rest so you get several meals out of it. This will save you time and ensure you always have something that’s quick, easy and still healthy to prepare.
Snacking is where a lot of people go wrong. They will often have decent meals, but ruin it by snacking throughout the day without realising just how many calories are in the snacks. Keep some healthy snacks with you so you don't give in to temptation.

Don't Think of it as a Short Term Diet
You need to find a way you can this for the long term, not just a short-term diet. Ignore all the fad diets that promise quick results. Eat in a way that will help achieve your goals while fitting into your lifestyle. It’s no good losing loads of weight in six weeks and then putting it all back on plus a bit more after because you couldn’t stick to it.

Talk to Your Family and Friends
Talk to your friends and family and get them to help support you, or at least not put pressure to not stick to your diet. Having people around you to encourage you when you’re struggling can be a big help. However, there will likely be times where people will try and encourage you to eat badly or to have another alcoholic drink. This still happens to me after all these years. You’ll have to be prepared to say no when this happens.

Don't over-complicate how to lose weight and don't do gimmicks and fad diets. Most of it will just being organised and planning your meal in advance.
