Core Qualities All Successful Leaders PossessPosted by The Synergy Organization, Inc. on March 27th, 2020 No one would argue that a healthcare organization does not need a “good” leader. What, though, does that entail? Here are a few of the indispensable and intangible qualities every good leader possesses that healthcare executive recruiters should actively search for when looking for superlative managers. Communication SkillsBreakdown in communications is usually the cause of any breakdown. Mis or missed communications lead to confusion, chaos, divisiveness and ultimately, failure, if not caught and corrected. Possessing strong communications skills is key to any successful leader; his that that entails: Ability to LearnThere is no more an ineffective leader that someone who is not willing to learn. They will learn from mistakes as well as successes and are willing to learn new things. This is particularly important since much of business is an adaptation and applying lessons learned to current and future projects or events. Is RealisticEveryone loves an optimist, but if that optimism is based on denial or delusion, it wears thin fast. A good leader can accurately and objectively assess a situation and derive a realistic summary of what the situation is and how to handle it. They are not prone to embrace a concept of either Utopia or Doomsday. Understanding and JudgmentA good leader possesses and can apply wisdom and understanding. They understand the demands of any particular job and have realistic expectations about what can be done. They also can assess a situation, identify needs and make sound decisions. They are Not Control FreaksTo a certain extent, we are all control-minded. It is difficult for us to turn something over to someone else unless we trust them and even then, we frequently are inclined to “check-in.” A good leader can delegate responsibilities and rely on their employees to do their jobs and deliver as expected. They are AccountableThere is nothing more aggravating than political leaders who refuse to accept responsibility for decisions they make or the actions they take. The same goes for leaders in other areas; a good leader takes responsibility for their actions. Gives Appropriate CreditAt the same time, a good leader will let others get credit for a job well done. They will not assume credit when things go well; nor will they forget to mention employees who performed admirably. Is ApproachableOften, upper-level managers are almost untouchable in terms of contact with employees. This is a huge mistake. A good leader will embrace meeting employees, customers, managers, etc. as they realize almost everyone brings something to the table. Healthcare executive recruiters look for quality managers who have the potential to become exemplary executive officers. Each who qualifies will have the above traits. Like it?
