Creating a solid strategy is important before you get moving supplies

Before you get moving supplies, you have to do some important tasks to make the packing experience less of a drag and more strategic. We often feel that we are wasting money trying to get moving boxes and end up only using a few ones inconveniently. While we want to save money with moving supplies, we also want to make sure that we use the moving boxes to make it easier for us to move around and feel comfortable getting our items out of the home without the risk of breaking something or causing injuries to the movers.

Always plan ahead

Once the relocation date has been settled, you have to move fast. You might only have 1 week or maybe a month to deal with all the items in your home especially when moving to another state. Before you get moving boxes, decide on what your moving project will include. This means removing all the clutter in the house. Cleaning the house and ridding off all the unnecessary items is a good way to reduce the clutter you have to bring and in essence, you do not have to bring a lot of boxes than originally planned. Create an inventory of items per individual or per room if you live alone.

Decide on how to organize your items strategically

We call this reverse packing. You pick the items that you need most and you create your very own survival kit. You get moving boxes of small to medium size since you want to make sure that they are easy to carry around. Once you have all the necessary items that you need in one box, decide on items that are very precious or have very high price value. You need to get moving supplies that are accordingly beneficial to your needs. You can get bubble wraps, plastic wraps and other items that are designed to secure items effectively to avoid collision or surface damage.

Get moving supplies for furniture

Do not forget the large items that you have to carry. Sofas and maybe some designer chairs, a book case or a dining table should be carefully wrapped. The legs of tables should be detached when possible and chairs should be stacked and secured with foam when possible. Sofas have to be covered especially if made of fabric to prevent stains when moving.  If the items can be dismantled and reassembled later, do that and get moving boxes that can handle the weight of individual pieces.

Label all your boxes

Labels should be designed to make it easier to know what is inside the boxes. Some people just like to take photos and tape them on the side with clear tape. Some people have inventories printed on paper. Some people like to use color codes in which they have the master list of items carefully color coded to know where the items will go. This is essentially ideal if there are two or more people who mixed items together to economize the moving costs
