In this day and age of modern technology involved with online gaming gamers have the ability to play rpg games through a number of different devices.  There are several different types of gaming systems and platforms for everything from the computer to the smart phone.  The developers of rpg titles often create the titles of their games to be compatible with as many devices and systems as possible.  In some cases they are restricted to producing a specific title for a specific system without the possibility of crossing the platform industry.  In all cases they make the game playable on some level in an off line format.

The majority of rpg games have a storyline involved.  It can either be very in depth and extensive or it can be very basic and with very little detail.  These storylines are generally used to develop the levels of the game which can be played off line.  For the most part these levels of the rpg title are very basic and easy to flow through.  They offer the gamer a little insight into what the online version of the game is going to be like.  It entices them to join an online community associated with their particular gaming system to play against others.

In some cases the rpg games that have off line capability will also have various degrees of difficulty associated with the levels available for play the gamer can access without going online.  This does extend the off line playing atmosphere and give the gamer without internet something to occupy their time.  The primary purpose of an rpg title is to get the gamer to interact with other gamers through an online server that has been established to handle the gaming experience.  The off line levels serve to whet the appetite for further adventures that can only be accessed in the online environment.

For some rpg games it is possible to play the entire game and all of its levels in an off line setting.  In these cases the gamer does not have to interact with any of the other gamers currently playing the same title but any of the challenges or levels completed will not transfer into the online gaming community should they decide to join in and play.  Gamers that want to play rpg titles off line are essentially missing the point and intent of the game as it was designed by the developers.

In the modern era of rpg games, or any games for that matter, the object of the title is to get the gamer to play the rpg in an online environment.  Playing these types of games off line does not provide the same level of entertainment as the online version; however if the gamer wants to know more about the storyline involved this is the course of play they want to engage in prior to hopping online and competing against players from all over the world.  It can provide some valuable insight into what can be expected once the online environment has been accessed.
