When you buy products, there are often many different symbols that appear on the labels. Have you ever wondered what the symbols on your organic beauty products mean? Read on to find out what symbols mean to find out if your products are what you think they are. You may be surprised at what you learn. Take just a couple of minutes to read this article and educate yourself about your products.

If you see the symbol of a leaping bunny it means that the product is animal cruelty free. It’s a symbol used internationally and was established by the Coalition for Consumer Information in Cosmetics (CCIC). Whenever you see this symbol you know that you will be getting a product that has not been tested on animals.

There is a symbol that has a circle with USDA and ORGANIC inside of a circle. This symbol means that a product has been certified as being created in a facility where organic ingredients are created up to the high standards of the US Dept. of Agriculture’s National Organic Programme.

Another symbol is a thin green lined circle around a white leaf on a green background. The words National Products Association (NPA) and Certified are on the border. This symbol means that the product has been certified by the National Products Association which is the first and only standard for natural personal care products. Only products that meet the strict definition of being natural as defined by the NPA receive this award.

Another symbol includes UVB+UBA. In about 1976, the European Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association developed standards in the industry for testing and labelling sun care products. Their goal is to simplify the system of labelling, improve methods of testing, and provide easy to understand information for consumers. Sunscreens which include the UVB+UVA label meet or exceed the standards set for SPF protection against UVB rays.

These are some of the symbols you may come across on your beauty products. If you are not exactly sure what other symbols mean, it’s a good idea to do research before spending your hard earned money on a product.
