Poker Rules: Betting

Poker is all about following the rules. If you want to play the game of poker successfully and want to emerge as a winner, then it is essential to know all the poker rules. There are rules such as poker hand rank, possible actions in the game, betting rounds, and limits, etc. but here we will concentrate on one of the most important rules in the game that constitute to the structure of the game – the betting rules.

Blinds

Before the actual betting round in the poker online games, there is an important thing in poker called as the blind. In this round, you must place some forced chips in the pot. Many people think why there is a concept of the blind in the poker game; then they must know that the same was introduced in the game to ensure that there are chips in the pot before the players start betting. This motivates the players to win that hand. What will happen if there are no chips in the pot, would you not fold your hand due to the lack of money in the pot?

There are two types of blinds in the game. As per the blind rules, two players on the table place the forced bets or blind. The player who sits immediately clockwise from the dealer or the marker button or the dealer button or just the button needs to place the first forced bet, which is called the small blind.

Now, the next clockwise player from the small blind player will have to place the big blind, which is called the big blind. In the big blind, the amount is twice the size of the small blind.

So, in a way, this is the total size of the stakes in the poker games. In the cases when there are only two players left in the game, then the dealer can place the big blind, and the other player can place the small blind. After this, the actual betting round starts as per poker game rules.

Pre-Flop

This is the first betting round. It is called as the Pre-flop. In this betting round, the dealer deals hole cards to the players in the game.

Flop

This is an important round of the game as the three community cards are kept on the table face-up for all the players by the dealer. The betting starts now.

Turn

In this round of bets, the dealer reveals the fourth community card on the table.

River

In this final round of bets, the dealer reveals the final and the fifth community card on the table. The final betting continues to happen.

In all the rounds of betting, the betting happens till you match the bets or fold your cards.
