5 Winter Skincare Tips for Oily Skin

Posted by TULA Skincare on December 11th, 2020

Dehydrating air and dips in temperatures are winter facts of life that most of us have grown accustomed to. But these blustery conditions can impact the health of our skin, which is sometimes frustrating. It’s not only people with dry skin who feel the effects. People with oily skin deal with it too. If this is you, then you’ll want to keep your skin comfortable and hydrated with gentle and nourishing products. Here are some tips and products to add to your skincare routine this winter.

Use Non-Comedogenic Products

If you’re concerned about clogged pores, you want to make sure that your moisturizers, serums, and even your makeup products are non-comedogenic, which means they don’t contain pore-clogging ingredients. Clogged pores can lead to breakouts or blackheads. Oily skin is more prone to clogged pores because the skin is producing excess sebum, which can contribute to pores becoming clogged.

Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize

If you haven’t already established a good cleansing, toning, and moisturizing routine, it’s important to choose products that cater to your skin’s needs. Some products work well on all skin types while others are more geared toward oily or blemish-prone skin. You don’t want to dry your skin out or strip it in an effort to get rid of excess oil as this will be counterproductive. A cleanser, toner, and moisturizer with clean & effective ingredients will instead help balance the look of your skin and give it what it needs to stay nourished, hydrated and protected while looking calm. The best products may also address the look of uneven toned skin as well, which can be either oily or dry.

Choose the Right Moisturizer

You may find that using an oil free face moisturizer regularly, even in winter, is an excellent way to keep your skin properly hydrated. Seek a lightweight gel cream moisturizer that absorbs easily without a greasy texture. Ingredients like hydrating probiotics and superfoods, plus fruit extracts, work well together to keep your skin quenched and balanced. Just like dry skin, oily skin needs adequate hydration to look and feel healthy.

Exfoliate Gently But Regularly

Even in the winter, you should regularly exfoliate with a gentle scrub to keep sebum production in check and keep pores clear. The product should be powerful but gentle on your skin. If blackheads or pore size are a concern, seek an exfoliating scrub with ingredients such as lactic acid, witch hazel, hibiscus flower acid, pink salt, and volcanic sand. It should be gentle enough to incorporate into your skincare routine two to three times a week.

Tend to Acne-Prone Skin

If you have oily skin and are also prone to acne, you may find it beneficial to follow an Acne Skin Care regimen with clean and effective FDA-approved salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide—these ingredients are known acne fighters and can help reveal clearer-looking skin. Make sure the products are alcohol-free and fragrance-free too and contain other ingredients that help calm the look of irritation, such as probiotics and superfoods.
