Why do some cars only light up one rear fog lamp

I wonder if the car owners have paid attention to the rear fog lights of their cars, are they one or two? I believe that many people’s first reaction is affirmative, of course there are two! In fact, there are indeed two rear fog lights when they are not in use. However, when the rear fog lights of some cars are turned on, only one lights up. What is going on? Is it broken, or is it reduced?

The answer is neither! Car rear fog lamps must be installed according to national regulations, but there is no requirement to install one or two. Therefore, from the legal point of view, only one rear fog lamp is in compliance with the regulations.

Everyone knows that fog lamp for car is mainly turned on during rainy and foggy weather, and the purpose of fog lights is to remind the car in front of the car to avoid rear-end collisions.

The rear fog lights, like the rear width lights and brake lights, are red, but the rear fog lights have stronger penetrating power, which is more dazzling. But the rear fog lights are very close to the rear brake lights. Some models have high-position brake lights, so if there are two, if your fog lights are on, people think you are lighting the brake lights, which may cause misjudgment.

Therefore, in order to clearly distinguish the rear fog lights, so as not to be mistakenly identified as brake lights by the car behind, the design idea of "install only one" is adopted. At least we usually see that the lights on the bottom of the car are in pairs. So if a fog lamp is turned on alone, it is easier to alert the car behind. However, the design of the two rear fog lamps is not without, but basically models with two fog lamps will separate the brake lamps and the fog lamps far away, making it easy to distinguish.

Therefore, if your car has only one rear fog lamp, don't think too much about it, thinking that the car factory has reduced the equipment, which will affect safety. In fact, only one fog lamp is not a big problem. On the contrary, there may be a little more benefit.
