Why Should You Love Indian Dishes

Everyone knows that food is a quintessential requirement of the human body. However, apart from making you healthy, it plays a significant role in gratifying your mental, physical, and emotional requirements. Understandably, eating is mandatory. Now, the world is full of different countries, and every nation has something unique to offer in terms of food. In reality, the cuisine of a country is an integral part of the culture of the people living there. In that regard, the whole world recognizes India as the home of hardworking people who love spicy dishes. Western nations, for a long period, kept on believing that the Indian food Cambridge only contains chillies. The truth is entirely different, of course. The food of India uniquely combines various spices and condiments.

The difference

One needs to understand the meaning of the word “spice” before they utter the word “spicy.” The former describes something taken from plants. It bestows aroma on food when you add it. Conversely, the latter elucidates the hotness of an edible item. There was a time when Indian dishes were popular in the west only for their heat. Once they realized that the cuisine Waterloo contains more than just dehydrated red chillies, they began to acknowledge the specialty of Indian food. Therefore, every dish that contains spices isn’t necessarily spicy. Also, you can’t prepare an Indian meal with just curry powder and a few dried red chillies. So, for instance, if you’re a fan of tandoori chicken, then you need to know how to use yogurt, lemon, cumin, cardamom, cloves, garlic, coriander, and turmeric to marinate the meat.

Combining sour with sweet

Many people in the west know about the spices and the hotness of Indian food, but only a handful can contemplate how cleverly they infuse sourness into various dishes. Indians eat a lot of sour curd or yogurt, but in specific parts of the country, especially in the southern regions, people use mango and tamarind to add tang to a recipe, other than lemon juice, yogurt, and vinegar. Southerners are also quite adept at mixing sourness and sweetness in dishes, such as the “Dahi vada.”

Street-side vendors

Some of the rich and creamy recipes containing pounded spices and condiments combined with ground cashew nuts come from the royal courts of Indian sovereigns. However, a few dishes that gained fame in the west came from significantly humbler places. Hundreds of locals flock the Indian restaurants located in foreign countries simply to get a taste of authentic street-side food. It can also be challenging for one such establishment to bring everything to your table because every state in India has a unique street food item to offer. For example, in Mumbai, the roadside stalls can offer you “panipuri,” which are crispy and puffy semolina cups filled with a mixture of mashed potatoes, chickpeas, and tamarind water. Then again, in Kolkata, you will find Kati rolls that resemble burritos. It’s safe to say that the cuisine of India deserves all the attention it gets and more.
