Bug Tracking Software: An Effective Problem Tracking System Used In Corporate En

A bug tracking software, sometimes called a defect tracker, is a comprehensive software program that keeps track of reported software defects in software development projects over a period of time. It can be considered a cross-functional form of problem tracking system used in a corporate environment. The term "bug" refers to a single defective piece of software that enters the project from an outside source. A bug can be fixed later, but it's better to catch it in its earliest stages.

When the software is released to end-user for testing and/or production, the software is "patched" - otherwise known as "security fix." By using a bug tracking software, an IT team can quickly identify and notify a business owner or manager if a security vulnerability exists in the software. A software developer will add a series of function calls or sub-functions to the software to test for bugs. If the bug finds its way into a released software, then the software developer must patch the software and remove the infected code. In most cases, software developers patch their software before they release it to end-user for customer use.
