The modern day stove is one of the safest appliances to use. Despite this assurance we’re sure that there are many homeowners who are not absolutely comfortable handling these appliances. There is a certain amount of scare in anyone’s mind that handles stoves every day. However, it is worth reiterating that stoves are completely safe to use but to an extent the onus of safety is on the user too, i.e. you. There is nothing out of the ordinary that you need to do. Just ensure that you handle the stove the way it is supposed to be handled and replace parts like heat glass and rope gaskets on time.

Wood burning stoves especially have some health hazards associated with their use. This is the reason the emission norms are so strict worldwide. There are essentially two issues with wood burning stoves – fire and smoke. When you light your wood stove and you get the smell of smoke it is a sure sign of something amiss. Most homes don’t have Carbon Monoxide and smoke detectors and situations could turn fatal if one doesn’t get the smoke smell soon enough. The smoke can not only cause fire but can also cause respiratory problems.

But most stoves are built safe enough for any building. The manufacturers take utmost care to ensure that each and every piece of stove that they manufacture is safe to use. But these issues still happen. Why do you think they happen?

It has been seen that in most of the cases the cause is negligence. Those homeowners that don’t take care of their stoves usually face these issues. And to think of it there is not much one needs to do in order to keep their stove in top working condition. Regular cleaning of residue material and looking out for signs of wear and tear of component parts like heat glass and rope gaskets and others are all that one needs to do. With proper maintenance a stove not only is safe to use but also produces optimum heat. And production of optimum heat means saving on cost of fuel.

Rope gaskets are among the sturdiest ropes of all. They are specially manufactured for stoves and they can withstand very high temperatures. These ropes are required for sealing the combustion chamber. When the combustion chamber is sealed the heat produced is optimum and no smoke comes out of the stove. Heat glass is used on the stove window and it also serves the same purpose – it seals the combustion chamber. If you continue to look out for wear and tear you will be able to replace these parts on time and this would ensure safety for everyone at home.

People have perished because they haven’t taken adequate care of their stoves. You wouldn’t want to fall into their category. Just ensure that you take proper care of your stove and its components, heat glass and rope gaskets and others. All this will not only keep the stove safe but also enhance its longevity.

Health hazards can be avoided when heat glass and rope gaskets are maintained and replaced on time.
