Tips for sustainable water resources management

The implementation of an effective water management plan is an area every construction project struggles with. A construction project, be it a residential or a commercial one, earns a lot of extra points in terms of sustainability if it succeeds in devising good ways of managing water. Nowadays, the management of almost every construction company pays special attention to this regard because a construction project with effective management of water has value in the market. Here are a few tips the construction companies can make use of to succeed in this matter.

  1. Rainwater harvesting

Rainwater harvesting is a simple way of conserving water without compromising on space or construction cost. It just requires the addition of small tanks on the floor or the terrace of the building and a chain of pipes or inclined surfaces to channel the rainwater into the tanks. It is common knowledge that during the rainy season, a lot of water gets wasted, and during the dry months, the buildings resort to the judicious management of water. So, rainwater management is a good method of water management in buildings.

  1. Sensor-based faucets

It is a way of sustainable water resources management that takes the help of modern technology. Nowadays, taps, faucets, and washbasins can have magnet or laser-powered sensors, which control the flow of water only when it senses a human presence. Many people have the bad habit of keeping the faucet on even when they are not using the water, which results in unnecessary wastage of water. With the help of sensor-based faucets, this form of wastage can be eliminated.

  1. Regular repair of valves

Most of the time, water gets wasted in the buildings due to leaky pipes and pipe-joints. The leaks might not get detected for months, and during that course of time, a lot of water would have got wasted. If this problem requires fixing, the best way to do it is to keep checking the condition of the valves, pipes, and pipe-joints in the plumbing system. If any wear and tear is observed, the repair should be carried out immediately. The expenses incurred due to repair saves a lot of future expenses.

  1. Use of quality building materials

The key to sustainable water resources management is the use of high-quality and sustainable building materials. If the building materials are good enough, there is very little chance of water seepage and leakage. Then, water can be managed in a much better way.
