What is a flange?

A flange is a metal disc utilized to sign up with pipes. A gasket is fixed in between the two flanges to tighten up the seal. A flange is used to link 2 pipelines or valves or tubes to form a piping network. They provide assistance and strength and avoid leak.

Frequently welded or screwed into pipelines or valves, bolts attach flanges together. Flanges offer simple access to clean or inspect a piping system.

Made from numerous metals - Stainless-steel, Cast Iron, Ductile Iron, Carbon Steel, and so on, these flanges differ in 'pressure class'.

Every flange is classified under a pressure class, depending upon the capacity of the flange to stand up to a specific amount of temperature. Likewise, the type of metal utilized in determine how much pressure it can hold up against.

So it can be inferred that various flanges can withstand various temperature levels (or pressures.) If the temperature increases, the pressure ranking of the flange reduces and vice versa.

What is an Orifice flange?

Orifice flanges are disc-shaped flanges which come with one of the 3 flanges specifically Slip-on, Threaded and Weld neck.

Main purpose:

Orifice flange is a gadget having welding ends, which enables it to hold an orifice plate undamaged.

Widely utilized with orifice meters, they measure the flow rate of either liquid or gases, that flow through the pipeline. The Orifice Flowmeter includes a thin Orifice plate, clamped into orifice flanges.

An orifice plate, which is the device to measure the movement of the inner fluid or gas, is secured between two orifice flanges, which are connected to the pipeline. The orifice plate consists of a little hole; with 2 pressure tap holes are drilled in each flange which assists in measuring the pressure built inside the pipeline.

A 'jack screw' fitted in between the 2 flanges, it allows to separate the flanges throughout evaluation or replacement procedure.

Usage:

Industries where Orifice flange is used -

Heavy and light chemicals

Steel

Paper

Nuclear

Petrochemicals

Sewage treatment

Water duplex steel treatment and circulation

Oil production and refining

Gas Processing and transmission

Chemicals

Thus, these flanges play an essential role throughout the upkeep period of the piping system. They are the very best fit for complex pipeline networks.
