How Often Should I Have My Lawn Landscaped?

Depending on your location, it is recommended to mow your lawn every 2 weeks. Basic lawn care services can include mowing, weed eating, clearing debris, and leaf blowing. Many people choose to tend to their lawn themselves while others hire a landscaping company. 

No matter which you choose, the work still is performed on the same schedule. In the warmer months of the year yard maintenance is recommended to be weekly especially if you live in a high rain area. 

Landscaping Flower Beds

The beautiful addition of a flower bed to your yard gives a lively array of colors. Some may think that a flower bed is a low maintenance thing but if not maintained to remove weeds it could quickly become overrun. 

Hiring a landscaping company can free up your time since they have trained individuals who can come in and get the job done quickly and efficiently. A landscaper is also knowledgeable about the time of year to prune or trim back flowers and shrubbery so that they flourish in the next season.

Fertilizing Your Lawn

Another key part of maintaining a beautiful lawn is fertilization. When you fertilize your lawn you are not only feeding the grass but also helping to remove weeds such as crabgrass and dandelions. Some weeds come back annually while others are perennial. 

The best time to fertilize your lawn is in the spring. For most areas, this will be in mid-April. If you are using a slow-release fertilizer you will repeat application every 6-8 weeks.

Springtime Maintenance

This time of year is a busy time in the landscaping area. Trees are inspected, the soil is tested for proper pH levels, and lawns get fertilized. During spring you may require weekly lawn maintenance since the sun and rain can make your grass grow quicker. It is also a great time to apply a pre-emergent herbicide to your flower beds to help control weeds before they break through the surface. 

After applying the pre-emergent you can also replenish the mulch in your flower beds and ensure it is at least one inch thick to help prevent weed growth. When all of your flowers begin to bloom the pops of color will be so beautiful without weeds.

Fall & Winter Maintenance

During the fall is when you should trim back perennials. Trees are often losing their leaves during this time as well. It is suggested that you should rake them into piles and remove them rather than leaving them on the ground. Leaving the leaves can smother the lawn or even kill it completely. 

If you are in an area that has colder temperatures it is recommended to protect your trees, shrubbery, and flowers from the elements. Fall is also a great time to seed your yard. Look for bare spots and treat accordingly.
