Gardening Equipment & Tools: Uses and Importance

Posted by Amos Fred on December 18th, 2020

Gardening is fun. And with the right tools and equipment, you’ll see better results much sooner rather than later. If you’re a beginner and you’re checking out options, it’s best to start with the basics. Here’s some of the common gardening tools that you’ll find and what they’re used for to give you an idea which options suit your needs.

Watering Can

Hoses aren’t always convenient. If you have a tiny garden, then consider a watering can. It’s also good for spreading fertilizer and weed killing chemicals into your pots or plants. You can choose from brass, copper, ceramic, and plastic materials. It’s also available in a range of sizes.

Pruners

Another gardening tool must-have, pruners make it easy for you to trim stems, shrubs, and branches. You can use it to dig out soil before you start planting anything, too. There are also pruning saws that come with larger teeth, which make them ideal for rough surface use. You can also use pruning saws to cut down tree limbs and small branches. If you’re looking for tools that will see plenty of use, this one should be on your list.

Gloves

Don’t underestimate the protection that an excellent pair of gloves can give you. Cuts from thorns or even the edge of a rusty pair of shears could easily get infected. Gloves protect you from that. There are different materials that you can choose from, too. For better protection, leather gloves work great, but they often lack a bit of flexibility. If you’re looking for gloves that will improve your gardening efficiency, then check out waterproof seedling gloves. You’ll find it so much easier to do the work with these pair on. If you want to protect your skin from sun burn, though, think about going for full-length gloves that go up to your elbows.

Utility Bags

You’ll need something to carry all your tools from one spot to another while having free use of your hands. Utility bags come in handy for this. They’re also a good place to keep the gardening tools that you usually use. These bags are also great for collecting debris in the garden or for discarded weed. You can use it as a trash bag to keep your garden space clean.

Gardening Forks

There are plenty of uses for gardening forks. They are used to dig out the soil, especially if the soil is in a compacted form. Loose materials like tree clippings, leaves, and compost that’s made from pruning can are easy to pick up and collect with gardening forks.

Shears

These are basically a pair of scissors but they work for your garden. They’re often bigger and can handle cutting up branches, small tree limbs, and leaves. You can maintain the shape of your shrubs with gardening shears with ease.

Hoes

Used to remove weeds and dig up soil, hoes are available in two types: draw hoes and push hoes. Shop for the right one, depending on your needs. Consider your gardening goals, the plants you want to grow, and go from there.
