In different societies, shoes mean different things. They are worn for different occasions, symbolize a certain class in society or they are even used for aesthetic value. There are different types of shoes and they vary in type design, colours, sizes and even material.

The different types of men’s shoes include boots, loafers, brogues, monk straps, Oxfords, slippers, moccasins, wingtips, and derby shoes.

You will see that people buy men’s shoes, mainly based on preference. Everyone has their own unique taste. The styles in different individuals vary.

The following are a list of the different men’s shoes that can be easily accessed and when they are worn normally;

  1. Monk strap shoes- they are seen to be very formal and worn on special occasions mostly. They have no lacing whatsoever and are hence closed by a buckle and strap. The straps vary as they can be one, two or even multiple in some cases. It’s only an issue of preference. The straps have different styles to bring out the beauty of the shoe.
  2. Loafers- they are shoes where you slip on your feet. They are usually very comfortable and popular with most men. Loafers have a distinct heel; it’s a very tiny one. They come in very many designs and can be worn for almost any occasion be it a formal occasion or even a casual one.
  3. Brogues- they have perforations in them, which off course are for aesthetic value making the shoe look beautiful. It is a myth that these perforations would flood the shoes in the Scottish weather making them perforated.
  4. Derby shoes- they have the shoelace outlet sewn onto them, meaning you must lace them in order to wear them. They are formal and very easy to wear.
  5. Slippers- this is casual men’s shoes that one only has to slip their foot in to wear it. They are very casual and are worn outdoors. You cannot wear a slipper to a formal or business event.

It is important to note that we cannot talk of men’s shoes without mentioning men’s socks. They complement each other. In order to look sharp one must wear socks together with the shoes.

They're some very important guidelines to follow when wearing men’s socks, which entail that a man should always wear a matching pair of socks. They should not be different. If you’re wearing floral socks make sure that the match.

Your socks should match the colour of your trousers in order to be well dressed. You cannot have white trousers and green socks. You will end up looking very off. It is a fashion crime not to wear matching socks and trousers.

Moreover, your socks should be long enough to be covered by your trousers. It is a very basic rule of wearing men’s socks.

Last, but not least, we will talk about the two types of socks. The protective socks and the athletic socks. The athletic socks are light and are for sports while the protective socks are much heavier and are for protecting the leg from damage.
