Convenience of mobile dog grooming and its growing popularity in the UK

The purpose of this article is the share my thoughts on the growing popularity of mobile dog grooming in general, what to expect if you’ve never used a mobile dog groomer before and also about the benefits of choosing a mobile dog groomer, not only for you, but for you dog. This area much like the growth of e-commerce is about its convenience.

By having your dog groomed by a mobile spa it creates a familiar environment for your dog and is great when working from home – these factors can only mean that the market for mobile dog grooming is booming and we predict this trend will continue for some time especially given how the pandemic has changed peoples routines.

Most of the mobile spas that we have seen look magnificent inside and out. It is amazing how much can be put inside one of the mobile spas with more than enough room for the groomer and dog to walk around and get comfortable with the surroundings beforehand.

In terms of price you are paying for the groom but don’t forget you’ll also be paying for the convenience. A mild increase I will admit but think of it as a short term investment. You won’t be travelling to static dog groomer and you won’t have to wait around for the groom to finish. When it comes to mobile dog grooming all you need to do is pick up the phone, book an appointment and they will come to you with an entire spa on board dedicated to grooming.

It might even be fair to say that using a mobile dog groomer will be less stressful for your dog, especially if it is shy, nervous or scared. They’re in a location they’re familiar with, their owner can come out and see them at any time and there are no other dogs around which may at times be stressful. There also isn’t the hustle and bustle of a static dog grooming business and therefore the environment is much quieter.

Some mobile dog groomers have their own generator or more recently a separate battery which powers all of their equipment for the groom, others need access to a wall socket. If they need access to a wall socket you as the owner need to make sure that there is firstly enough room outside the front or back of your home which is close enough for them to plug in. Of course these are not short leads they have on them, as long as the nearest plug is within 25-30 meters you should be fine. By using a dog groomer who has a plug in mobile spa it means it is much quieter than a generator and if you have more than one dog to groom it means they’re less likely to run out of power with their battery. Each of the three have their pros and cons so make sure you know what one your groomer has on board.

Growth

As of 2019 the UK has seen its population spend about £10 Billion a year on their dogs as a whole ranging from things such as food, clothes and of course grooming with about 27% of dog owners saying that they have spa-style treatments.

This trend is likely to continue with a source stating that the average annual compounding growth of grooming will be 4.7% between 2015-2025. This trend is not unique to the UK either with some published articles across the pond experiencing the same positive growth. With disposable income continuing to rise and not slowing anytime soon I think it is safe to suggest that we have more money than ever to spend on our wants and not always on our needs.

Finals thoughts

We have been using our our own mobile dog groomer for some time now and the business itself sparked my interest, not only because of the wonderful work that they do, nor because of how amazing the inside of one of these mobile spas looks but because it is an interesting shift from static businesses to mobile and convenience, something which we can all admit has been happening for some time but we’re just not aware of it.
