The use of magnetic clasps in jewelry making has increased in popularity for a number of different reasons. However, the responses to the efficacy remain mixed among jewelry makers. Many love them, as much as others hate them. Perhaps the reasons behind the mixed reactions are the difficulty that is experienced when the choices are made. In order to achieve the best results when using these clasps is to first necessary to ensure that the right choice of clasp is made.

The magnetic clasps that have become popular in jewelry making functions much like a button that includes a loop, that can be attached to another item, such as the tip of a bead, this item is further connected to the assembly, by running a loop to all connecting components.

The magnitude of the magnetism supplied by the magnetic clasps can be used for different reasons. Although there has been no scientific evidence to support the theory, there are reports that magnetic therapy can help in the healing process. The clasps can be integrated into jewelry, such as bracelets that can be worn to promote healing.

The claims are based on the fact that the body's tissue and cells generate low levels of electromagnetic radiation, which is disrupted, when injuries occur. The strength of the magnetic field, will vary according to the strength of the magnet, but typically magnetic clasps provide energy fields of anywhere from 5000 to 20000 gauss units. Practitioners believe that this is the required amount to accelerate the healing process that can relieve symptoms of diseases such as arthritis, headaches, and promote healing from chronic diseases such as cancer. By wearing bracelets with these clasps, the magnetic field is also believed to improve blood circulation.

When the magnetic clasps are used in jewelry making, the main reason they are used, is not for the noted healing properties, but they are effective in connecting the ends of the jewelry item in a secure fashion. The fact that they are magnetic, should add an extra layer of security, as metal continues to be attracted to each other. There are different choices and options available for use of magnetic clasps and your choice depends on the item in which it is used. The spring clasps are used alternatively with the lobster clasps that include opposing hooks that are snapped together. The new models are no less effective, and can include a latching mechanism.

Magnetic clasps are very affordable, and the metallic attraction means that they will continue help to retain some attraction. The different design mean that you have some degree of versatility and flexibility in you design, however, there may or may not be some disadvantages that have not been fully explored.

Although investigations have shown that the therapy is in fact harmless, and the FDA has ruled that the therapy is safe, damage can be caused if accessories that include magnetic clasps are worn by people with implants, such as pace makers, defibrillators or pumps that contain some metal.

Magnetic clasps are effective in holding metal jewelry together. Although magnetic therapy is believed to be safe, the idea behind the use of magnetic clasps should not be primarily for healing.
