Moving To A New Home? Here Are The Things You Need To Do Before Moving In

Posted by rbelectric on December 21st, 2020

Moving to a new house is a big undertaking. The best time to do an inspection is when it’s empty. There are no furniture and things that can get in the way. You can see the condition of the house much better.

You have probably done some inspection on the house already. Make sure it passes inspection standards and if there are problems, have them fixed before moving in.

And before you officially haul your items to the new house, you should do the following things first:

Clean every nook and cranny of the house.

There’s nothing better than moving to a clean house. Take advantage of that clean slate and make sure your house is clean in all corners before moving in. Vacuum the floors, wipe the walls with a damp cloth, sweep the ceiling and the corners of the house to get rid of cobwebs, wipe all surfaces and make sure you disinfect the bathroom and the kitchen.

Clean inside draws and cabinets as well. Who knows how long those have not been cleaned? If the house comes with a fridge, make sure you clean that as well.

If you are not up to the task of deep-cleaning your new home, there are companies that can do it for you at a certain fee.

Do an electrical check-up.

Now is a good time to look for the electrical panel in Lake Cowichan and make sure it is updated. If it’s an old panel and they haven’t updated it in decades, you need to hire professional technicians such as RB Electric to change it.

While you are at it, check the entire electrical system as well. You have an outdated electrical system if the breakers in the electrical panel in Lake Cowichan keeps on tripping. Watch out for flickering lights as well. That might be a sign that your home isn’t getting sufficient electricity.

Check to see if the roof is in good condition.

You don’t want to deal with rainwater coming into your home so soon after moving in. Get someone to clean the gutters and inspect the roofing for signs of damage. You might also need to have it maintained if there are holes or missing shingles to ensure that there are no leaks.

Schedule for HVAC maintenance.

Schedule for a heater and air conditioner maintenance as well. Get those air ducts cleaned so you don’t breathe in dirty air when you move in. This also ensures that you have a good heating or cooling system when you live there.

Now make sure you do these things to ensure that your home is in good shape before moving in and to avoid problems that can damage your belongings.
