The public is the primary source of welfare and prosperity for a country, especially in a democracy. It has all the rights to elect its government. There are many nations like India, where governments provide benefits to the public and help them cover up for most of the expenses. Since it is the public and the government collaboration that makes a nation strong, both the parties should have a positive relationship and try to work together towards development and prosperity.

Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi introduced several affordable schemes in 2015, including the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, accidental insurance covering Indian residents and Non-Residential Indians (NRI). They have to pay a sum of INR 12 every year to keep the policy active. The policyholder becomes eligible for the permanent partial or permanent total life insurance coverage of up to INR 2 lakh, respectively.

They have to follow a process to file their insurance claim under the PMSBY policy failing, which they cannot receive the amount in their bank accounts. Here is an explanation of how to file the policy claim:

  • Inform the police: If an accident occurs, the first thing to do is inform the police and lodge an FIR. The FIR is an essential document in the claim process as the policyholder has to submit it when filing the insurance claim. The claim gets automatically rejected if they fail to do so at the time of the accident.
  • Inform the bank: Individuals need to buy the PMSBY scheme from any participating banks who are mediators or sources of connection to the government. After filing the FIR, they can start the claim process by informing them about the accident and filing the claim. They must mention the necessary details like name, contact number, policy number, and the accident venue.
  • File the claim: As mentioned in the PMSBY document, the policy owner needs to file the insurance claim by filling out a few pieces of paperwork. Avoid leaving any portion of the form incomplete as it increases the chances of rejection of the request. Usually, the filing process should not take more than 30 days from the date of the accident.
  • Submit the form with documents: Submit the relevant documents, the duly filled claim application form, and the FIR copy offered by the police. The medical certificate should highlight the extent of disability, discharge certificate, and the post-mortem report in case of the policyholder's unfortunate death. Banks verify the insurance details within 60 days and pay INR 1 lakh or 2 lakh to the accident victim's nominee.
