Jewelry has cultural significance and in Africa as an example,the beautifully crafted hand made jewelry and the materials used being gold silver and sea shells may have indicated a persons standing,influence in the community or their wealth .
Over the centuries, Africans used materials that were readily present in their immediate environment .Over time the materials use became more diverse.
Some of the Materials used were Ivory ,carved stone, animal teeth, sea shells, bone,amber and glass.
Ancient Egypt also produced beautiful bead work dating back to 2,200 B.C.
