The Importance of a Logo to Your Brand - Why You Need a Business Logo

If you are thinking of starting a new business, or have an existing business that might be needing a little marketing push, one of the first things you should consider is establishing an effective business logo. Not just a graphic for your letterhead, an effective business logo can literally create a visual image that represents your core business, your mission, and the nature of your product or service. It is said that a picture paints 1,000 words, and, although a cliche, this saying could not be more true when considering the importance of a quality BRAND LOGO.

Quality is the key word; you can probably think of some very poor quality logos that made you think that maybe the product or service that it advertised was not necessarily high quality. On the other hand, a quality and professional logo speaks of the potential quality of the product or service that the business logo is representing. Low quality business logos sometimes include clip art or templates that are prevalent in the small business market. A new business owner simply selects a ready-made template for a business card or letterhead, for example, and adopts that symbol as his or her defacto logo. The problem there is obvious; your logo would not be exclusive, and certainly does not expressly reflect the individuality of your business.

Professionally designed business logos stand out, though not as much as unprofessionally designed logos (but, not in a good way). Unless you are an experienced graphic artist, or have a professional on staff, it is almost always worth your while to work with someone who has this very specific skill-set. Although you might pay a little bit more than you would by doing a logo design yourself, the results will almost always be better when professionally conceived by a commercial artist. If you have an initial idea of what you are looking for in a logo, and can provide a quick sketch to your professional graphic artist, you can save some money; but, remember to be open to his or her ideas as well, as many times they, with their experience in the commercial business logo realm, can far surpass what you have come up with.

You finally have your business logo - now show it off! Your logo should represent your business on every single piece of media, marketing, packaging, informational literature and anything else that pertains to your business. Do not underestimate the power of creating a brand; that is, your image and everything tied to it becomes the business and vice versa. Your business logo should grace every page of your website, for example. Your new logo should be on every envelope, every piece of letterhead, anything that may be seen publicly (aka by potential customers).
