High Versatility of Petroleum Wax Makes Them Suitable for a Myriad of Industrial

Posted by coherent market insights on December 29th, 2020

Petroleum waxes are a class of mineral waxes that occurs naturally in various fractions of crude petroleum. It can be derived from both paraffinic and intermediate crude oils and is composed of three basic carbon structures (such as ring, branched, and linear) that are characteristic of the crude oil. They have a wide range of applications such as in the production of candles and rubber, an adhesives additive, coating of drinking cups, as components of inks, hot melts, and coatings for paper, and can be used in binders, caulks, and asphalt. Furthermore, paraffin has many cosmetic and medical uses, as well. Paraffin wax treatment (a therapeutic and cosmetic procedure) is used to treat dermatitis, burns, acne, warts, wounds, eczema, boils, blisters, and abscesses, as well as other skin problems.

Paraffin can be added to skin products to help soften and moisturize dry skin and treat flaky, scaly, or broken skin. It can also be added to bath water to soften the skin after a shower or bath and as a body wash after warm water. Microcrystalline wax is produced by de-oiling petrolatum, as part of the petroleum refining process. Whereas, paraffin wax is made up of petroleum byproducts of crude oil production. Besides being completely non-toxic, paraffin wax burns efficiently. Microcrystalline wax is widely used in adhesives, coatings and linings, sealing compositions, laminated paper products, and various types of polishes.
