As a rule, a detox diet is a pure juice diet that is carried out over a few days. A detox diet is similar to an alkaline fast (acid-forming foods are avoided, alkaline-forming foods are preferred). First, special tablets or capsules are usually used to empty the intestines, which is also known as "colon cleansing" among detox adherents. For this purpose, various supplementary products can be purchased (e.g. Colon Ex in combination with Acai berry capsules), which contain cleansing and detoxifying substances, are intended to promote digestion, positively change the intestinal environment and support the effect of the diet.

On the following juice days, in addition to plenty of water and herbal tea, only fruit and vegetable juices are drunk. Thus metabolism and digestion are to be stimulated. Following the juice days, a high-fiber diet consisting exclusively of fruits and vegetables or raw vegetable juices is recommended. Solid foods are only slowly reintroduced in the style of a fasting diet.

Detox diets can be supplemented by accompanying treatments such as massages and baths. In addition, sauna sessions, yoga exercises and long walks in the fresh air are said to enhance the detoxifying effect. Recently also in mode came the so-called Detox Parties, with which after Detox defaults and with special Detox juices one celebrates. Partially these parties contain also special movement units (Workouts).

Many different variants of detox diets can be found on the Internet and in the book market, which are advertised with a wide range of health-promoting effects. They are supposed to offer help with stress, lower irritability, as well as strengthen the immune system. The individual recommendations are varied and confusing. Some advise drinking distilled water, special detox tablets and supplements, and detox foot patches.

Examples of detox diets:

Master Cleanse detox diet (also known as lemon juice diet): this is the most well-known detox diet. It contains a mixture of cayenne pepper, lemon juice, maple syrup and water. This drink is always drunk when hunger pangs arise. The Master Cleanse diet is followed for a maximum of 10 days.
Juice Fast diet (fast juices): in this diet juices made from fruits and vegetables are on the menu.
Mono Fruit detox diet: In this type of diet, only the juice of one type of fruit is consumed.
Raw Food Detox Diet: In this detox concept, only raw food is on the menu.

A popular dietary supplement for detoxification is BodyFokus Clean Body Restart.
Hallelujah Diet: Modification of the raw food detox diet. Consumption of 85% raw food and 15% cooked food (the latter only in the evening). Breakfast is omitted, and special vegetable juices are served instead. Drinking water should be distilled, and various dietary supplements are also recommended.
Diuretic diet: Here the emphasis is on eating asparagus, artichokes, celery, dandelion, juniper berries, melons, parsley and cress.

There is no set information on the duration and frequency of detox diets or detox cures. Some followers set aside a detox day every week, others carry out one or two weeks as a cure every year.
