The SDM Medical College operates in the name of Dharma and its mission is to give education in the form of peaceful maintenance of an environment in the study arena. The hospital is attached to the college and gives the students ample opportunities to see real life diseases, illnesses and type of treatment. The SDM Medical College offers admission to the candidates coming from science backgrounds and over 17 years of age. The students must pass the 10+ 2 examinations with 50% marks in aggregate and have subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Migrating students from other Universities may also be admitted, but the rules are different in case of such candidates regarding selection procedure. The Medical Council of India recognized this college and gives its appreciation for its efforts of educating students from all standards of the society. MBBS course occurs in 5 and half years where 4 and a half years include studying time and one year include rotator internship. MD and MS courses are also offered for certain subjects and diploma certificate courses are also offered to interested students.
SDM Medical College, Dharwad has been given an appreciation for having a bachelor of Physiotherapy courses. The college is known for having experienced faculty members, well equipped library, nice hostels to stay for the girls and the boys and wonderful opportunities for the sporting activities too. The Masters in Physiotherapy degree is also offered here. Job openings can be expected from the hospital itself or in private and government hospitals in the state. The physiotherapists coming out of this organization are also absorbed by sporting associations and they have the freedom to practice on own.
SDM Medical College Dharwad is happy to give paramedical courses extending to 2 years to PUC candidates and 3 years to SSLC candidates. The students must reside in the state of Karnataka for at least 7 years for getting these degrees. The age limit of such candidates must be within 17 to 35 years. This college had the first batch of MBBS students in September of 2004 and has never looked back. Great quality medical practitioners have been produced by the college ever since.
