Knowing Your Skin Type

Posted by Edward Williams on January 1st, 2021

We all are unique. We have our own personality, mannerisms, characteristics, expressions and signature style, yet our standards of beauty are codified. It sounds quite ironic, but it is how the world runs. The greatest realization in this world is self-realization, and the knowing your body is the key factor in knowing oneself. Knowing one’s body involves knowing one’s skin. Skin-type is crucial in determining the cosmetics and body products. There are different types of skin types.

The main five types of skin types are

  1. Oily Skin

The skin secretes natural oils to keep itself moisturized, but for people with oily skin, this process can go sideways because of excess production, especially if they have larger pores. The more the pore size the more the oil produced. You can use less moisturizers and focus more on using cleansers as you are suffering from open pores, acnes and pimples.

  1. Dry Skin

This is opposite to that of the oily skin. Here the pores are closed and the glands are inactive. Even though they don’t suffer much from acne and pimples, the problems they face are from dryness, lack of moisturizing and dead cells. They should focus more on moisturizers and less on cleansers. They can also use products like scrubs that are aimed to remove dead cells.

  1. Sensitive Skin

This skin type requires more care compared to other types. The problem with this skin type is the rashes and red dots that appear on skin. Selecting products for this skin type is a challenge as skin reacts pretty badly to certain cosmetic products. As part of maintain a healthy skin sensitive type should avoid friction, excessive heat and triggers like alcohol or stress, if those tend to affect your skin. It is better to use products selected by an expert or getting properly trained by experts (beauty courses Perth) to select cosmetic products is the safest option.

  1. Combination skin

This is where it gets tricky. Some areas are too oily that you cannot use dry skin products and some areas are too dry to use products for oily skin. For most people it appears oily in forehead and nose (T section) and normal and dry skin in rest of the areas. The best way to select products is by starting to answer what is where. Once you understand that, select product addressing to that part of the body.

  1. Normal Skin

Understanding normal depends on the perception of normal in your area and climatic conditions. Mostly normal skin people have pores and glands that are not hyperactive, but active enough to moisturize your skin. Here also selecting skin products can get tricky with climatic conditions.

If you know the skin type selecting the product also get easier. It is the baseline for selecting the products and treatments. If you are passionate to maintain your beauty, then understanding your skin type is necessary. Getting an expert opinion is also recommended, since that can give you real insights about beauty.
