Stinky drains - common causes and what you can do about them

Today, we have become so accustomed to seamlessly running sewer systems that we have almost forgotten to repair drains. On the contrary, drains tend to suffer from innumerable problems. Every year, hundreds of homes and businesses call plumbing repair companies.

Blocked and damaged drains cast a number of signs and their fluttering smell is one of them. This smell is so sharp sometimes that one has no choice but to run in the opposite direction in disgust. But before you deal with this situation, it is better to know about the causes.

The following are some common causes of foul-smelling drains:

1. Household waste: It is undoubtedly the most common cause of clogged and smelly drains. Food waste from the kitchen and bodily waste from the bathroom clog a drain pretty quickly. First, a small clogging plug gets stuck in the drain, and then gradually more and more waste accumulates in the drain. Eventually, this blockage begins to empty, giving off a bad Drain Repair Toronto.

2. Construction waste: While almost all drains contain waste of some kind, there is a tendency for serious problems to form only when some solid waste such as building materials is stuck. Small pieces of building materials such as carpets, rugs, wood, etc. Can be accidentally washed down the drain. Due to their unequal shape and size, these materials often get stuck in drains for a long time and give off odors.

Sewage gas: All drains have a reservoir of water to prevent the flow of sewage gas into the house. However, drains of laundry rooms that have not been used for some time may start to smell because the water tank in them may have dried up. So to avoid this, one can simply run some water occasionally from the drains that are hardly used in the house.

4. External problems: Although the above problems can still be solved without professional help, but when drains are clear and still cause bad odor, the problem can take deep inside the drain. For this, it is always good to take the help of professional plumbers who can easily detect problems such as corrosion of pipes, blockage of ventilation, infiltration of tree roots, etc.

Obsolete furniture: Professional plumbers also say that when inspecting some drainage systems, it is often found that even though they lacked any kind of clogging, they still smelled violent. The main reason behind this was the inefficient and outdated fixture like S-bend drains etc. Some medieval drainage systems had a great potential to develop drainage problems and odor was also one of them.

Whatever the reason is, the bottom line is that smelly drains are hard to live with and therefore one should call drain repair experts as soon as possible. Postponing drainage problems does not do any good and actually makes things out of control.
