Magnetic clasps have gained popularity in the jewellery making industry for many reasons. However most of the jewellery makers are still not convinced about the efficiency of these clasps. It has received mixed reviews, with people loving and hating them equally. One of the major reasons why people do not enjoy working with these claps is because, choosing the right type of clasp is a tedious process and requires a bit of experience. Among the different types of clasps in this version, the one that is gaining popularity is the one that looks like a button and also has a loop which enables it to be attached to another item, like the tip of a bead.

This further can be connected to the assembly by using the loop to connect all the components. Further, the magnetism in the magnetic clasp is said to help in healing process. However there is no scientific evidence to prove that ‘magnetic therapy’ works. The reason behind the theory is that, cells and tissues in human body generate its own electromagnetic radiation which is disrupted in case of an injury. Therefore using something that is able to provide an energy field between 5000 and 20,000 gauss units, as in case of magnetic clasps, it is considered beneficial. It is believed that these magnetic radiations accelerate the process of healing. Further it also alleviates issues like headaches, arthritis. Many believe that it even helps in healing chronic diseases like cancer.

Practitioners recommend wearing bracelets made up of magnets to help enhance the blood circulation. However in jewellery making, clasps are used to secure the ends and not for their healing properties. Different varieties of clasps made of magnets are used and it depends upon the individual’s choice. In fact, usage of magnetic clasps in jewellery making has been approved by FDA as it is considered safe and harmless. However people, who have been fitted with pacemakers, have had implants, pumps or defibrillators should not use these because the magnetic radiation will interfere with its performance. Most of the clasps that are made of magnets are easy to use and affordable. They can be easily removed and then replaced or renewed unlike the traditional clasps.

As it is inexpensive, it can also be renewed into different types of jewellery without having to throw them out. The wear and tear is less in the magnetic clasps in comparison to the traditional clasp that break eventually. One can be devoid of the concern of not being able to wear the favourite piece of jewellery because the clasp will not work anymore or is broken. Most of all these clasps are stylish and in trend now which makes them a favourite among jewellery lovers.
