Responsive Web Design Elements

Posted by powermarketing on June 30th, 2014

Most of us have heard about a responsive web design, if not interacted with it, in our daily activities. In the field of web design we are getting to a point where we need to design and come up with products that meet the clients’ needs while minimizing costs. The term responsive basically means that the website responds to the different users’ needs and devices. While aiming for this, it is not possible to keep up with the widening spectrum of screen resolutions and endless new devices.

Responsive web design is at its best the solutions where you aim to design for general resolutions or sizes such as iPads, iPhones and tablets. It is an approach that suggests that the design should respond to the users’ behavior and experiences based on the screen sizes, resolution and orientation. As an individual switches from using his tablet to mobile phone the screens should change automatically to fit the resolution.

To come up with a responsive website, there are four basic elements to consider:

Branding element

What makes a site receive more viewers is actually the right branding. A responsive site should place more emphasis on the brand, while trying to achieve and build a more mobile version it should not lose its uniqueness or brand.

Building a responsive website requires that one design for three to four widths at all times, keeping in mind that the design should reflect the brand at all times. No matter what size the screen is, the branding elements should always remain visible.

Navigation element

This is how one moves about the website. For a responsive web design you should learn how to design interfaces in the best manner that fits mobile, desktop and tablet views. To come up with user friendly and easy to maneuver websites, one should consider the site navigation locations. For mobile phones the navigation sites should be either at the top and centered, while for large screens it should be right below the banner.

Flexible image element

Images need to be resized when working with responsive web designs. There are a number of ways to achieve this including resizing every image by hand which could be tiresome and time consuming. Use of CSS’S max width technique remains to the most popular option for resizing images.

Columns for the site element

A responsive website should be able to fit into any clients device while at the same time maintaining quality and originality. It should be able to scale headlines, images texts and advertisements in the correct sizes while maintaining the integrity and quality of the information.

Though not exhaustive, these are basic elements to consider in order not to come up with a common website but a responsive website. In summary, responsive web design is about mastering basic web designing techniques while keeping it simple, then expanding on that knowledge. There are no specific themes or styles other than improvements to avoid static websites and embrace responsive websites.
