The larvae would come out. This larvae is the caterpillar only. There are 4 stages in the life cycle of a butterfly. And the larvae are the second stage. All that the caterpillar would do is eat and eat. The caterpillar does not stay in this stage for a very long period of time. The first thing the caterpillar does is to eat the leaf it is born on.

They grow by moulting that is shedding their skin. Because their skin does not grow while they are growing. So they shed their skin and new skin is formed when they grow out of it. They eat so they quickly grow and grow. The third stage is pupa. The caterpillar quickly changes into the pupa. From outside it looks as if the caterpillar is resting but from inside is where all the action is happening. Inside the pupa the caterpillar is rapidly changing. The changes that a caterpillar grows through is called metamorphosis. It then emerges into the beautiful butterfly that begins to fly. This is the final stage of the butterfly’s life cycle.

The fourth stage is the adult butterfly. After the caterpillar has done all the changing and forming inside the pupa it turns into the adult butterfly.
