In case if you are diagnosed with any sexually transmitted disease, ensure that you inform your partner. If you have got it from your previous partner, you should also inform him/her to prevent the condition from spreading.

An untreated gonorrhea infection can cause serious health issues as it can spread other parts of the body like the testes, bladder, urethra, seminal vesicles and the prostate. The symptoms of this disease may worsen and lead to

  • Difficulty in urination
  • Urethral or rectal abscesses
  • High levels of pain and swelling of the testicles

Similarly the gonorrhea infection can also affect the throat and cause infection of the mouth if oral stimulation is done to the person infected with the bacterium. The main symptom of gonorrhea infection is a swelling and soreness of the throat, which may not be diagnosed as the gonorrhea infection. If you feel that symptoms of the throat are similar to that of this sexually transmitted disease, then it is prudent that you get yourself checked out.

The oral gonorrhea infection can be passed to other individuals through acts like oral stimulation and kissing, so it is better to avoid any form of sexual contact until it is clear whether you are suffering from gonorrhea.

The results of the tests taken for checking of gonorrhea virus may take a few days to come. Your doctor may give you some medicines to relieve the pain and inflammation. The physician will take a sample of the fluid discharged from the woman’s cervix or from the urethra of the man. An anal or throat culture may also be undertaken to check for symptoms of rectal or moth gonorrhea. The physician may also ask you to undergo urine or other tests to check for the presence of any gonorrhea bacterium.
