Anti-malarial drugs or simply antimalarial are an effective form of anti-parasite chemical, commonly of natural origin, which is used to fight or prevent malaria, in this case, generally targeting two highly susceptible groups, pregnant women and young children. The incidence of Lupus and the complications associated with the disease has increased dramatically over recent years, and these increases have led to increased interest in identifying new agents that could potentially improve the management of Lupus symptoms and, subsequently, prevent further exacerbations and complications. One area of particular interest in this regard is the use of antimalarial.

The long-term use of Lupus medications in their natural forms may be necessary in order to successfully control the disease. Unfortunately, long-term use of Lupus medications such as these can result in potentially serious side effects. These side effects are often related to an imbalance of the body's immune system. In addition to potential negative health effects, some long-term uses of these anti-fever medications may also result in the body's attempt to regain vigor or to fight off the symptoms of Lupus, which can result in further complications and side effects.

One of the major medication classes associated with the development of Lupus complications is that of quinacrine and chloroquine. Treatment for Lupus often involves the use of anti-malarial drugs. In general, such treatments are used in patients with uncomplicated cases of Lupus, especially those cases in which no other treatment options are feasible, or when the disease is still mild.
