The city of Norwalk is also expected to provide more than million in local taxpayer incentives.
In a Friday news release, company leaders said they chose Norwalk for its quality of life and its proximity to the company’s supply chain.
“We looked at numerous locations in the Midwest, and Norwalk had many advantages," said Steve Schonhoff, senior vice president of integrated supply chain, Michael Foods and Bob Evans Foods. "We look forward to Michael Foods becoming a preferred employer in the area and being part of the community."
Michael Foods will build on a 33-acre site near the intersection of Delaware Street and Iowa Highway 28.The project promises to create 168 new jobs. Only 17 of those positions received state incentives and must pay at least .38 per hour.
