Planning an afternoon tea party can be too daunting at first, but it is often quite the opposite. Depending on the occasion you are celebrating, your afternoon tea menu consists of just tea and scones, or you can go an extra mile and even include different types of teas, finger sandwiches, cakes, and other such treats. Either way, our following list of tea party menu will make sure that your tea party is an absolute hit.

The tea

It is great to focus on the food items that you would be serving, but make sure never to overlook the tea aspect of the afternoon. A lot of people get so lost in the types of horderves they will be serving for tea that they forget the types of teas they can serve. The flavor of the tea is thus discounted for, ultimately taking away from its meaning. If you want to add aesthetics to your tea party, then go for blooming tea. It is such a beautiful and delicious option for the party. Other than that, also try to select some intensely flavored tea, since they go really well with food. Also, for your friends who are going caffeine-free, go for a more tisane based (herbal) tea option.

Scones and scone toppings

Scones are the most popular tea party menu items. They can be sweet, savory, or plain, such as savory cheddar, buttermilk, mustard, and sweet cinnamon scones. You can experiment with different recipes as well. There are so many out there. If you are going for a blooming flower tea, then consider opting for a raspberry scone, which gives a naturally pink hue when you mesh it in with the dough. But be sure never to forget scone toppings. This could be something like clotted cream, Devonshire cream, or lemon curd.

Finger sandwiches

These are the heavier portion of the afternoon tea menu. The classic afternoon tea finger sandwiches consist of egg salad, tea sandwiches, smoked salmon, roast beef finger sandwiches, chicken salad finger sandwiches, and cucumber sandwiches. However, you can also go beyond the traditional recipes and try something like watercress tea sandwiches or buttered radish finger sandwiches. Just make sure that the flavors' intensity in your finger sandwiches are not plain in contrast to the flavor in your tea and sweets.

Sweets

There are different types of sweets that are often served as part of the tea party menu. This includes various types of sponge cakes, cupcakes, Madeleines, and trifles. However, you will need to make sure that there is no hideous overlap of flavors, but everything should subtly blend in. Ideally, your sweets menu will have a variety of flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, cream, and seasonal fruit.

Savories

You can go beyond having scones and finger sandwiches if you like. You can opt for quiches, soups, and other light snacks like seasoned dry fruits, crackers, and cheese. You can also have a cheese board as well. You can add slices of various lean meats, pickles, and so many other things that you know your friends would like
