Top 5 Facilities Provided in the Best Drug Treatment Centres

Posted by one40 on August 5th, 2014

Finding the best drug rehab clinic or facility can be quite an overwhelming task, especially with the number of centres offering the same (or seemingly the same) services. The fact is that not all rehab facilities are the same, and finding the perfect fit for you or your loved one is all about identifying your individual needs and finding the facility that can meet them.

Your decision about which drug treatment centre to choose can mean the difference between recovery and repeated relapse. Facilities and amenities are important, but not as important as the philosophy that the centre employs.

It is the view of the majority of professionals that specialise in the treatment of Addictions that a stand alone therapeutic programme comprising of only Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT,) and/or the 12 steps Minnesota method, does not address the core issues that many individuals should explore whilst on a residential addiction treatment programme. Many addiction disorders stem from an individual’s understandable inability to face experiences of trauma, family issues, events that trigger painful and raw core emotions. They only feel short term relief when fixed often by a self-medicating negative process, be it on drugs, prescription or otherwise and alcohol and other process addictions including sex and gambling.

To help explore these painful emotions and feelings, and the behaviours associated to them, often the only way they can be accessed in the beginning is through engaging in non-cognitive therapies, which offer a gateway process for the individual to be able to start to explore in words their experience and their perspective view of what happened in their life to trigger such a destructive pattern of behaviours and actions.

It is only then through non-cognitive therapies that an individual will be able to get authentically engaged in a therapeutic programme to stop their addictive processes.

So instead of just looking at the types of luxuries and amenities that the centre offers, make sure you are explained and that you understand the philosophies and principles, approaches to, and methodologies of treatment that the rehab facility employs and follows to make sure you or your loved one can receive the holistic treatment necessary for rehabilitation. Here are common facilities provided in drug treatment centres:

1. Clean, organized, often shared, spacious living quarters

Rehab programs often take months 1 to 2 months to complete. This is why the facility you choose should have a spacious, orderly, and clean living or residential quarter that is conducive to recovery. While luxurious resort-like facilities do not necessarily guarantee successful results, they do help create an environment where clients can improve their condition. Don't dismiss fancy amenities ever so readily, but do weigh their practicality.

2. Therapy and treatment rooms

No rehab facility should be without well-appointed rooms and spaces for the different kinds of therapies and treatment sessions. These rooms should be private, though not necessarily cut off from the rest of the facility.

3. Healthy and tasty food

One common misconception about drug treatment centres is that they serve bad food. Contrary to popular belief, some of the best rehab treatment centres in the UK offer healthy and delicious meals. Balanced, low in sugar and rich in the necessary nutrients to promote the body’s restorative process.

4. Community Spaces

Common areas where patients can mingle and socialize should also be available, helping them recreate typical social situations that they normally encounter outside the facility. This is good exercise for helping clients in their transition and recovery.

5. Spaces for physical activities

A gym, a tennis court, or any other type of sports facility may also be helpful in encouraging clients to move about, as physical activities have been proven to increase happiness levels. Sports will also encourage clients to develop new habits and hobbies that they can take with them outside the facility.
