How To Prevent Herbicide Clogging In The Sprayer?

Posted by Klon Services Ltd on January 14th, 2021

Using a herbicide sprayer that has been sitting idle for a couple of days can be hard to use due to clogging. Even though every chemical is different, using a few tips can aid in preventing the clogs from happening in the future.

When does the clogging starts?

Well, the answer to this question totally depends upon the type of spray chemical you are using. Some chemicals will stay fine for a week, but a few others tend to clog within 24 hours. Again the quality of the water affects the clogging too. Dirty water will initiate clogging sooner due to the debris sitting in the tank.

So, here are a few tried and tested tricks that can help you to prevent herbicide clogging in the sprayer.

1- Avoid mixing chemicals:

Certain types of chemicals aren’t supposed to be used together or even one after another unless the tank and lines are properly cleaned. This is because, such types of chemicals tend to clump up with each other, thus, clogging the sprayer.

2- Clean the sprayer:

Cleaning the sprayer is an important activity that you must perform. This is because super clean tanks will reduce or eliminate the problem of clogging. Once you complete spraying, prefer to clean the tanks outside for an efficient cleaning process. Also, keep an eye on where the dirty water ends up.

3- Mix the chemicals properly:

During the rainy season, it becomes necessary to keep the chemicals in the tank for multiple days. So, even if you do not wish to spray herbicide, make a habit of mixing the chemicals every morning. Take extra care while mixing if one or more ingredients in the tank were in a dry form pre-mixing.

4- Keep the nozzles clean:

Spray tips witness most of the herbicide clogging because they are at the end. So, make sure to clean it properly. If the sprayer has a valve between the boom and the tank then ensure to shut it properly while it sits.

5- Inspect the filters:

You have to ensure that the filters have no objects or clogs of herbicide trapped. So, make a habit of inspecting the filters every other day. If you notice any clogging, then use the relevant cleaning agent to get rid of the dirt and debris.

6- Opt for clean water:

Ensure to always use clean water that is free of debris, dirt, and even insects. This is because foreign minerals can react badly with the chemicals.

Bottom line

So, there you go. These are some easy tricks that can assist in preventing the herbicide clogging in the sprayer.
