GPS stands for Global Positioning System which is a satellite navigation system which provides location of an object anywhere on the Earth. GPS is a system formed by a network of 24 satellites placed into an orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). It requires line of sight of minimum four satellites to trace a location on Earth. The system was basically developed for military purposes around the world but in the 1980’s was provided for civil and commercial uses and was free for everyone with a GPS receiver. The advancement in technology has given us everything we need in our hands.

A few months back when I moved to a new city I did not know anyone there and so I was facing many problems in getting settled. I had no idea what I was going to do there because if I had to buy something I had to ask many people to get to the right place. But when one day one of my colleague told me about GPS in smartphones, it was the solution for all my problems. He explained me how it worked and since then I could roam around the city freely.
